As everyone is aware about, Starbucks Corporation is actually an international coffee and coffeehouse chain based in Seattle, Washington, USA. It is also one of the largest coffeehouse company in the world, with at least 16,120 stores in 44 countries. They sells drip brewed coffee, espresso – based hot drinks, other hot and cold drinks, snacks and even items such as mugs other than coffee beans to their customers and as a result, the Starbucks company were able to market books, music and even film with the help from their music division and also the Help Music brand.
In addition to that, in the year of 1990, the Starbucks Corporation opens a new store which has caused the domestic growth to become slower than before, even though the company continues to expand in the foreign market which will open a net of 900 new store outside of the U.S. in the year 2009. The first Starbucks location outside of the USA and Canada was being established in the 1990s, and they now constitute almost one third of the Starbucks’ stores. On the other hand, in the year of 2009, Starbucks has more than 16,000 stores in 48 countries nationwide, and 11,006 of them were located in the United States, followed by Canada with 976 stores and 845 stores in Japan.
Meanwhile, on the 1st of July 2008, the Starbucks Corporation announced that they were going to close 600 under – performing company – owned stores other than cutting down the US expansion plans due to the growing of economics uncertainty and at the same time, they also want to cut almost 1,000 non – retail jobs as part of its bid to reenergize the brand and boost its profit. On the same boat, the Starbucks Corporation even announced the closure of an additional 300 under – performing stores, and the elimination of 7,000 position on the 28th of January 2009.
